Amber,
We only heard of Coach Shawn's passing yesterday, and we are very sorry. We will keep you Riley and MJ in our thoughts and prayers. We will always remember when Shawn coached the boys to the 6 yr old soccer championship, and spending time with him at the Dome for the 2012 Dragon State Championship. May GOD bless you all.

Shawn was a great man. Exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair-minded and a fierce, fierce friend. He will always have a special place in our hearts and our lives will not be the same without him in them. Amber, Riley and Maddyx, we hope you find peace in knowing that he touched so many people. He made the world a better place.

Growing up in Duluth was a very special time in my life! I didn't have much of a family life so I relied on my friends for that. Just like many others Smiley became much more than a friend, he became a brother! I will always cherish the days of growing up and raising cain together with all my brothers from Duluth and for their families, like Ben & Janey Thornton for their kindness toward me. Smiley you'll be missed brother, by all the people who's lives you touched while on this earth! I love ya man! Rest easy brother!!

My family and I were shocked and saddened to hear about Shawn. We know Shawn through my brother in law, Wayne Higgins. Shawn and Wayne belong to the same hunt club. Shawn also maintained my mother, Doris Henry’s lawn for several years. Shawn would always come inside after cutting her very large yard so he could cool off! He always shared stories about his family. An all around very nice guy. Our hearts go out to all of you. God bless.

Shawn was given the gift to light the path of everyone he crossed. He had such a good energy about him. I remember sitting beside him in class and my stomach would hurt so bad from laughing. He has such a great group of friends which shows you the kind of person he was. Shawn had a good heart and he will be greatly missed. I wish his family peace during this difficult time.

Dear Thornton family,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. It sounds like he was a very good man, in these times its rare to find someone with such a good attitude. But I'd like to leave you something comforting, Acts 24 verse 15. Here Jesus promises that one day we will be able to see our loved ones alive again! If you'd like even more comfort or info on my belief it can be found at jw.org

Sincerely, with best regards, Brandon

It is with a heavy heart that I express my sincerest sympathy to the Thornton family and dear friends. Shawn was truly one of a kind. I feel blessed to have grown up with such a good guy who was so happy, upbeat and friendly. His nickname, "Smiley" suited him perfectly. May you all find peace, comfort and strength in the fond memories you share. God bless.
