Mr. John D. Penn Jr.

John DuPree Penn, Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday January 27, 2018.  John courageously battled cancer for twenty months, all the while maintaining an amazing attitude of optimism, hope and faith in God.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.  John is survived by his loving wife Alice, his son John D. Penn, III of Orange Park, FL; his daughter and son-in-law Tricia and Tommy Rutledge of Grayson, GA; his step-son and daughter-in-law Tim and Dana Jarnigan of Hoschton, GA; two grandsons, Jeremy Rutledge of Grayson, GA and Rayne Jarnigan of Hoschton, GA.  John was preceded in death by his loving wife Charlotte S. Penn, his parents, John D. Penn, Sr, Christine V. Penn and his step-mom Mary E. Penn.

John was born on January 16, 1932 in Dalton, GA and raised in Rome, GA.  Following his graduation from the Boys High School in Rome, he served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, GA.  He had a life-long career, which began at the Southern Bell Company in Jacksonville, FL and ended with his retirement as Regional Manager of Material Logistics from Lucent Technologies in Atlanta, GA.  In retirement John enjoyed many types of volunteer service in his churches, mission trips - both home and abroad and spending quality time with his family and friends.  He lived a full purpose driven life and blessed many along the way. 

The Celebration of Life Service honoring John DuPree Penn, Jr. will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 7:00pm at First Baptist Church of Jefferson in Jefferson GA with Senior Pastor Dr. Michael Helms officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 5:00pm in the sanctuary of FBC Jefferson. 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson Foundation, P. O. Box 395, 246 Washington Street, Jefferson, GA 30549.
