Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Thomas Patrick “Tom” Whitehead,
age 66, of Hoschton, Georgia, who passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Hoschton, Georgia.
Mr. Whitehead was born in Atlanta, Georgia a son of the late Charles and Betty Yarborgh Whitehead. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his son, Geoff Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead was a U.S. Air force veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, loved Bluegrass Music, was a member of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association and a member of Holly Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Whitehead was named after Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry on September 28, 1952. The family loved camping and he started camping when he was only one year old. He carried on this tradition with his family. His love for music started with a drum set at the age of ten, he then moved to guitar, banjo and mandolin. Picking and grinning was his favorite thing to do.
He graduated from Berkmar High School in 1971. His dad took him to the old Sears building on Ponce de Leon to enlist in the Air Force.
He and his wife had thirty seven wonderful years together and about the only time they fussed was is when she tried to tell him how to drive and he would say, “He’s not doing that” and “you’re the one who is always getting lost.”
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Cryar Whitehead; son, Shawn Whitehead and wife Becki, Flagstaff, Arizona; grandchildren, Austin and Kaitlyn Whitehead, Flagstaff, Arizona; brother, Mike Whitehead, Panama City, Florida; sister, Catherine Rogers, Cameron, North Carolina; honorary brothers, Bob Glaze and Mark Shaw.
A memorial service will be held 3 PM Friday, October 19, 2018 from the chapel of Evans funeral home with Reverend James Hollins officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 PM until the service.
