Hari Har Cohly Obituary

Our beloved father, Hari Har Parshad Cohly, 68, of Jackson, MS, left this world on May 25, 2026. Born in India on August 12, 1957, Hari spent his life building a foundation of hard work, a love for academia, and doing everything passionately.

Hari began his elementary education in New Delhi at St. Columba’s School. Hari would join his father in Toronto, Ontario, Canada when he was 15. He finished up secondary school and went to the University of Toronto for his undergraduate. Thereafter, he moved to New York to attend SUNY- Buffalo where he received his Ph.D. and received a NRC fellowship which took him to Houston, Texas to complete his post-doctoral fellowship at NASA and Baylor College of Medicine. His post-doctoral work included electrophoresis of cells which he researched for future space missions. It was there that he met his wife, Cindy and married her in 1988. In 1989, they had their first child, Daya. After a short time in Toronto, they moved to Jackson, Mississippi where Hari took an assistant professor position at UMMC. In 1996, Anami was born, followed by followed by Dhara in 1998. Hari left UMMC to complete his academic career at Jackson State University where he researched multiple interests and obtained patents on innovative technologies.

Hari spent his life dedicated to research; his greatest contribution being his hydrogen gas patent. He greatly influenced the people around him, including his three daughters. Hari loved being a grandfather. He did everything until his last breath with determination and grit.

Whether he was researching the latest up and coming immunology research or spending time with his family, he approached life with a deep love and passion for the people around him. He taught us the importance of hard work and excelling in all you do. We will forever cherish the memories of his passion and humor.

Hari was a devoted follower of the Radhasoami Faith headquartered in Dayalbagh, Agra, India. In March 2021, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by relocating to Dayalbagh, where he spent the last years his life engaged in sea and spiritual practice. He worked diligently in the fields, participated in sating and sea seven days a week, and occasionally taught at Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI). Whatever task was entrusted to him, Hari performed it with dedication, humility, and excellence. His years in Dayalbagh brought him great fulfilment and allowed him to live in accordance with the principles he deeply cherished.

He will be dearly missed by the mother of his children, Cindy Cohly; his children, Daya Latiolais (Nick Latiolais), Anami (Mamie) Cohly, and Dhara Comans (Ryan Comans); and his grandchildren, Savannah and Caden Latiolais and Isaiah Comans. He is survived by his eldest brother, Prem Cohly (Kamini Cohly) and their children; Aarati and Soami Cohly. He is survived by his eldest sister, Gur Agrawal (Dr. Subodh Agrawal) and their children; Dr. Shub Agrawal Strand (Aaron Strand: Satya and Dhamini), Anand Agrawal (Jessica Agrawal), Akash Agrawal (Sara Agrawal), Bharat Agrawal, and Prakash Agrawal.

A celebration of Hari Cohly’s life will be held on in Jackson, MS at a later date. Please contact one of his daughters for more details. We invite everyone to bring their favorite memory of him to share.
