Mr. David Carlson Obituary



David Myron Carlson, age 91 passed into the presence of Jesus December 20, 2019 in Lawrenceville, GA.  He was born March 9, 1928 in St. Paul, MN to the late David Swan Carlson and Jenny Boberg Carlson.

Mr. Carlson spent the first 12 years of his life in Minnesota.  His family moved to Rome, GA where he attended Boys High School.  After graduating  from high school, he entered the US Navy where he served in the Hospital Corps during World War II.  After his discharge, he attended Emory University, The University of GA and Columbia International University.


Mr. Carlson met his wife, Joyce, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Decatur, GA where she was active in the Sunday School and Music program.


After his years in college, he entered the US Army and served in the Signal Corps during the Korean War.  Most of his career was in the Electronics and Communications field.  He worked as an engineer for Westinghouse, The National Park Service, and Motorola.  He also had his own company working in Communications and Electronics.


Mr. Carlson was a devotee to his church and Christian service.  He was heavily involved in music ministries. He sang in quartets and choirs and was a song leader.  He also served as a Sunday School teacher, an Elder and a Deacon. In recent years he enjoyed helping fellow veterans through the organization he started, Georgia Veterans.

He is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mary Joyce Kimsey Carlson, his parents and 4 brothers, Dean, Robert, Glenn and James.  He is survived by his four children, David Carlson of Norcross, GA, Karen Carlson Jernigan (Bob) of Talmo, GA , Timothy Carlson (Susan) of Asheville, NC, and Lisa Carlson Lewis (Terry) of Weddington, NC, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.


The immediate family will greet family and friends during Visitation at 10:00 am at Berean Baptist Church, 1405 Hewitt Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047 on Saturday, December 28, 2019. The Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am.  As a Veteran, Mr. Carlson will be buried at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA with his wife, Joyce.
