Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. James Harold Harbin, age 89, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Monday, June 1, 2026. Mr. Harbin was born in Pendergrass, Georgia on March 17, 1937, the son of the late James and Alda Wheeler Harbin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harbin was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Patricia Jean “Pat” Truelove Harbin and his sister, Betty Ann Harbin.
Mr. Harbin grew up in Gainesville, Georgia and graduated from Gainesville High School class of 1955. Mr. Harbin was employed for fifteen years with the Georgia Power Company and for twenty nine years with Jackson EMC, retiring as Superintendent of Operations in 1999. Mr. Harbin served in the United States Army for two years active duty and four years in the reserves. After basic training and advanced schooling, he spent the remainder of time in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Harbin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and enjoyed woodworking, camping and gardening.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Mason of Jefferson; sons, Chris Harbin of Lavon, TX and Bruce Harbin and his wife Judy of Gilbert, SC; brothers, David (Carolyn) Harbin of Commerce, GA and Bobby (Ann) Harbin of Gainesville, GA; ten grandchildren, Ashley (Alan) Bentley of Greenville, TX, Austin (Christine) Harbin of Chesapeake, VA, Abby Mason of Monroe, GA, Alex (Haley) Mason of Jefferson, Garrett Harbin of Columbia, SC, Ryan (Kayla) Harbin of Lexington, SC, Victoria Harbin of Richmond Hill, GA, Jamie Hopper of Trenton, TX, Rachel (Christian) Marsden of Lexington, SC, Ryan Rohde of Spartanburg, SC; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend David Harbin and Mr. Steven Hix officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with Garrett Harbin, Ryan Harbin, Austin Harbin, Alex Mason, Scott Harbin, Russ Harbin, Joel Harbin and Alan Harbin honored as pallbearers.
The visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
