Mr. James Greer Obituary

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. James Patrick “Jim” Greer, age 83, of Duluth, Georgia who entered rest Thursday February 8, 2024. Mr. Greer was born in Bardstown, Kentucky the son of the late Lewis Milton Greer and the late Kate Parrish Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Cress Greer and seven siblings.

Jim grew up working the family tobacco farm with his six brothers in Bardstown, Kentucky.  He was an awarded athlete in basketball and football at Nelson County High School.   Jim then graduated with his Bachelors in Science degree from Western Kentucky University, where he and his brother, Tom, were founding members of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.  Jim began his teaching and coaching career at Boyle County High School.  While there, he was introduced to his future wife, Patricia Cress, and they were married on June 13, 1965.   They moved to South Florida in August 1969, when Jim accepted the first head coaching position at Miramar High School.  His coaching motto was, “It is not about the words you say, but the actions you do.”  During his 34-year tenure at Miramar High School, he also served twice as the athletic director, refereed basketball games, and worked hundreds of sporting events in various capacities.  During these years, Jim and Pat raised three children who appreciated the love and support their parents provided.

Jim loved NASCAR, slot machines, and college sports.  He also loved traveling with family amd friends.   His trips were meticulously planned down to mileage and arrival times long before help from Map Quest and Google.  He never met a stanger and often ran into former students throughout his travels.  Jim could easily be spotted in a crowd by his John Deere t-shirt and his ever present baseball cap.  In the last few years, he met his health challenges straight on without complaint and continued living life.  Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was excited and proud to have his name carried on through his great grandson.

Survivors include daughters, Leslie Greer of Duluth, GA and Jennifer Greer Clark of Orlando, FL. Son, Kevin Greer (Elisa) of Woodstock, GA. Three grandchildren, Sierra David (Nicholas) of Winter Springs, FL, Morgan Clark of Oviedo, FL and Kylie Clark of Boca Raton, FL.
