Mr. James Darden Purgason

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. James Darden Purgason, age 91, of Lawrenceville, Georgia who entered rest Thursday, October 10, 2024. Mr. Purgason was born in Maud, Oklahoma the son of the late Palmer Wade Purgason and the late Augusta Lance Purgason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Barney and a brother, Carroll Purgason.

Mr. Purgason worked as an Educator with the United States Department of Labor. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jefferson, GA. He loved reading western novels, playing golf, going fishing and watching football. 

Survivors include his wife, Janette “Jan” Purgason of Lawrenceville, GA. Four children, Richard Darden Purgason (Melissa) of Dacula, GA, Jon Purgason of Carthage, NC, David Purgason of Atlanta, GA and Daniel Purgason of New York City. Sister, Palma Hildebrand of Gainesville, Texas. Thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

In accordance with Mr. Purgason’s wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
