Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. James Thomas “Heavy” Cannon, age 87, of Pendergrass, Georgia, who passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Mr. Cannon was born in Pendergrass, Georgia, a son to the late John S.T. Cannon and the late Louise Lewis Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a coordinator for Dundee Mills, a member of the Pond Fork Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Turner and his brothers, Jack Cannon and Johnny Cannon.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Wanda Gail Mangum Cannon of Pendergrass and his niece, Cathy Jones and her husband Craig of Gray, GA, Sister in laws, Beverly Perdue and her husband Stan, of Pendergrass, Missy Thomas of Talmo; brother in laws, Rick Mangum and his wife Janet and Jerry Mangum and his wife Janis of Pendergrass; special nephews, Cory snd Casey Perdue of Pendergrass also survive.
In accordance with Mr. Cannon’s wishes, his remains were cremated, and a private family service will be held on a later date.
