Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson, GA announces the death of Mr. Jens Houken, age 86, of Hoschton, Georgia, who passed away on July 9, 2024. Jens was born in Alborg, Denmark, a son to the late Aage and Edith Hansen Houken. Jens was a Chemical Engineer with Haldor Topsoe. Jens retired after forty years from Topsoe in 2004 . Jens’ passion was classical music, and he played the cello for the Clear Lake Symphony, in Houston, TX for several years. After moving to Georgia, Jens formed a classical music group in our community. Jens’ gentle nature, love of music and extreme kindness were the gifts he shared with many throughout life.
In addition to his parents, Jens is preceded in death by his step-son, Neil Brian Skillen in 2009.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Juleus Houken of Hoschton, GA; Jens’ son, Jesper and wife, Irene of Dallas, TX; daughter, Pernille of Houston, TX; step-son, Mark Skillen of Elkton Maryland; grandchildren, Jacob Skillen of Waxahachie, TX; Parker Skillen of Dacula, GA; daughter-in-law, Teena Skillen of Dacula, GA; sister Lise Houken of Denmark; nephew Jacob Nesgard of Denmark.
In accordance with Jens’ wishes, his remains were cremated and no services are planned at this time. However, plans for a remembrance of a life well lived will be planned for sometime in August at the Houken house.
