Mr. Joe Edward "Eddie" Babb Obituary

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of  Mr. Joe Edward (Eddie) Babb, Jr., of Nicholson, Georgia, who passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born July 1, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, Eddie was the son of Joe Edward Babb, Sr. and Edna Reynolds Babb. He grew up throughout the Southeastern United States, traveling and relocating with his family due to his father’s work with the Boy Scouts of America.

While living in South Carolina, he attended the College of Charleston where he studied history and French. His education was interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army. Prior to his deployment to South Korea, he and Martha Faye Wilson were married, and he went on to serve in South Korea, answering the call to serve his country with honor.

Following his military service, Eddie returned to civilian life and married Martha Faye Wilson. He also completed his education at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, eventually owning and operating his own electrical contracting business, where he was known for his integrity and strong work ethic.

After establishing their life together, Eddie and Martha joined and became charter members of the newly founded Athens Christian Church, where he worked and taught in the junior church program and served as a Deacon and as an Elder.

A man guided by his love of God, family, and country, Eddie was devoted to his family and cherished his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Married for nearly 59 years, his marriage to Martha stood as a testament to their loyalty, commitment, and the life they shared.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Martha Faye Babb; his two children, Joseph Bryan Babb and Susan Babb Kohanek (Chris Kohanek); his grandchildren Bryan Taylor Babb (Hayley Babb), Matthew Ethan Babb, Arden Leah Babb, and Matthew Nicholas Kohanek; his great-grandson Henry Babb; and his brother, Larry Babb.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 Saturday, February 7, 2026 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Parker officiating with military honors presented by the United State Army.  Burial is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Jackson Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. prior to the service on Saturday at Evans Funeral Home.
