Mr. Johnnie Wayne Barnes

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Johnnie Wayne Barnes, age 73, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Mr. Barnes was born on December 15, 1952 in Madison, Georgia, a son to the late Johnnie “Sim” Barnes and the late Mary Davis Creek. Mr. Barnes worked at Scientific Atlanta which later became MI Technologies and was a Past Master at the Clarkston Masonic Lodge # 492. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and cooking as well. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Jeanette Pannell Barnes.

Survivors include his son, Joe Barnes and his wife Jennifer of Jefferson; grandchildren, Maddie Yates and her husband Logan of Chattanooga, Hailey Barnes of Jefferson, Megan Barnes of Marietta; sisters, Judy Lawrence and her husband Tommy of Godfrey, Elizabeth Lawson of Godfrey and Brenda Creek Reichert of Atlanta; sister-in-law Mary Jane Stephens of Valley, AL and several nieces, nephew and cousins also survive.

A Visitation for Mr. Barnes will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
