Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the passing of Mr. Michael Clarence Childers, age 56, of Commerce, Georgia, who passed away on December 11, 2024. Michael was born on September 25, 1968, in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Stone Mountain.
Michael graduated from Shiloh High School in 1987. After he graduated, he followed in his dad’s footsteps and learned to be an electrician at a young age. He worked most of his career at Casteel Electric Company, then finished his career at Lowes in customer service as an electrical specialist.
Michael was preceded in death by his dad, Willie Clarence Childers and his mom, Carolyn Patton Childers.
As a child and young adult, Michael loved to play baseball and was a huge sports fan, he loved to watch the Georgia Bulldogs, Falcon’s, and Braves. Michael was a simple person and was happiest when he was with friends and family, whether it was a cookout, a family gathering, or simply sitting and watching a ballgame or bluegrass videos with his dad.
He is survived by his sister, Debora K. Shelton and her husband Russell L. Shelton of Braselton, his niece, Beth Sullivan of Jefferson, his nephew, Scott Smith of Winder, and his niece Andrea Parker of Commerce, their spouses and several great nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Michael’s wishes, his remains were cremated and there will be a small private Celebration of Life in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Foundation.
