Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Ann Toth, age 71, of Athens, Georgia, in the South Jackson Community, who passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Mrs. Toth was born in Essex, England, a daughter to the late Roy and Linda Last Harraway. Ann came to the United States at the age of about 20 years old as a English horse riding instructor, and shortly became the director of a girls riding camp outside of Chicago. Pursued horseback riding all her life, trained by the British Horse Society, earning her instructor certification, a license program in the United Kingdom. Dressage, show jumping and eventing were her teaching specialty on her own farm in Athens GA, Somerset Farm. She also volunteered being a 4H Horse show judge and 4H horse knowledge events, as the final judge decision.
Breeding Oldenburg horses on her farm was also quite successful, with her horses ending up all over the US. She also set up a after care facility on her farm for horses that were recovering from the UGA College of Veterinary Hospital, where she was employed as a radiology tech, and other positions for 25 years, and retiring from UGA. During the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, Ann also set up the veterinary clinic for horses at the horse park, working with the international riders, she was in her element!
Ann was an avid gardener and became a master gardener in 2012, after retirement. She was an active member and served as vice president and served on several committees. She volunteered many hours on the help line at the Athens Extension office and the State Botanical Garden as a tour guide.
She was a amazing person, so centered and principled and strong, tough yet kind, fantastic way with animals.
Survived by husband, Robert for over 40 years, Son, Justin and daughter in law Carey, grandchildren, Emma and Ryker.
A private family Memorial Service will take place on a later date.
