Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Brenda Byers Smith, age 84 of Dacula, Georgia who entered rest Friday, January 17, 2025. Mrs. Smith was born in Algood, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Marsh G. and Emma Bethel West Byers and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Gainesville. Mrs. Smith taught Elementary aged children Sunday School for twenty plus years, participated in countless Bible Studies throughout her life and most recently started a prayer group at Arbor Terrace. Mrs. Smith started her professional career at Savings and Loan Bank and was quickly recruited to General Motors by an executive. She took time off to stay at home with the children and then worked as a Payroll Clerk for the University of Michigan Hospital, retiring after twenty years of service. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Robert Smith, brother, Glen Byers, and sisters, Helen Brown and Shirley Hearnsberger.
Survivors include: two daugthers, Raegan Thorp (David) of Marietta and Brittany Napier (James) of Buford, and son, Rhett Robert Smith (Nickie) of Whitmore Lake, Michigan. Six grandchildren, who knew Mrs. Smith as Grandma Bebe, Leighton, Piper, Brock, Sophie, London and Dekker also survive.
A Memorial Service will take place at Hopewell Baptist Church on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sanctuary. The service is open to the public and the family would be honored for anyone who wishes to attend.
