Mrs. Carolyn Evans Obituary

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Carolyn Wilkes Evans, age 87 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Tuesday, December 30, 2025.  Mrs. Evans was born in Jefferson, Georgia a daughter of the late Worth and Mattie Jackson Wilkes.  Carolyn lived a full life of hard work and service to others working alongside her husband the late Loyd Evans and her son on a poultry, egg and cattle farm in the Brockton Community for many years and also working alongside her friends in the Cafeteria of Jefferson High School.  Carolyn subsequently worked and retired from First Commerce Bank after twenty years where she truly loved her customers and continued to make friends. Later in life, she along with her husband and son founded Evans Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Jefferson, where she continued her service to the public comforting her many friends as long as her health allowed. Carolyn assisted her daughter by volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Commerce, again making new friends and renewing old acquaintances.  Through the years she was a caregiver for her parents, siblings, cousins and friends, anywhere she could help.  Even caring for dogs, cats, cows, and goats, wherever the need.  Carolyn still found time to assist her brother, her son and a niece in getting elected to public office.  Whatever the task at hand, she was all in.  Carolyn was a active lifelong member of Bethany Methodist Church, a Church where her ancestors were Charter Members for as long as she was able to attend.  In addition to her parents, Worth and Mattie Wilkes, Carolyn is preceded by her husband of sixty-six years, Loyd Evans, and her siblings, Laconia Wilkes, J.T. Wilkes, Thelma Nabors, Frances Glenn, Henley Wilkes, Luther Wilkes and Connie Hemphill.  Carolyn is also preceded by a lifelong friend Alice Jackson.

Survivors include a son, Stan Evans (Cathy), Daughter, Suzanne Cummings  (Billy).  Grandchildren, Brenan Evans, Timothy Duke, Kelsey Heaton (Cohen) and Carter Evans (McKenzie).  Great Grandchildren, Addie, Mattox, Fletcher, Harper and Everett.  Longtime  special  friends Mary Ellen McClure, Tammy Bruce, Marie Hix and Vivian Scott. Carolyn would want to list her many nieces, nephews, all her many former bank customers and friends as well.  She truly loved you all.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2026 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Ray officiating with burial in Evans Memory Gardens.  Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are George Wilkes, Gerald Standridge, Jerry Davis, Sid Glenn, Darren Glenn, Timothy Duke, Mattox Ledbetter and Carter Evans.  Tommy Nabors, Andy Wilkes, and Garry Glenn will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Evans Funeral Home.
