Mrs. Dorothy Lee (Barrett) Duke

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Dorothy Barrett Duke, age 86 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Saturday, March 22, 2025.  Mrs. Duke was born in Homer, Georgia a daughter of the late Grover Odell Barrett and the late Bertha Irene Sorrells Barrett.  Mrs. Duke was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of Athens Tech and was a Professional Florist, retiring after forty five years of serving her friends and customers in the Jefferson area.  Mrs. Duke was a great cook, loved her floral work, gardening and most of all her family.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duke is preceded by a grandson, Matthew Benjamin McCroskey, brothers, Branson and Conrad Barrett and sisters, Grace Barrett and Barbara Ann Gregory.

Survivors include her husband of seventy years, Jack D. Duke of Jefferson.  Daughter, Jackie McCroskey (Gary) of Flowery Branch, two sons, Dave Duke of Jefferson, Doug Duke (Becky) of Commerce.  Grandchildren; Kayla Byrd (Calvin), Tim Duke, Jake McCroskey (Sarah), Reagan Duke, and Grayson Duke.  Great grandchildren, Sawyer Grace Byrd, Rylie Kate Byrd, Matthew Calvin Byrd.  Three brothers, George, Willard and Harold Barrett of Franklin, North Carolina.  Special Caretaker, Essie Hughey.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with her son Doug Duke officiating with burial to follow in Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson.  The family will receive friends 10:00 – 12:00 prior to the service at Evans Funeral Home.  Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Tim Duke, Jake McCroskey, Calvin Byrd, Grayson Duke, Hope Loggins, Tony Duke and Ronnie Williamson.
