Mrs. Helen Marie Sexton

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Helen Marie Sexton, age 87, of Gainesville, Georgia who entered rest Monday February 2, 2026. Mrs. Sexton was born in Ashville, North Carolina the daughter to the late Alton Lewis Griffin and the late Dixie Lee Garrison Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy James Sexton.

Mrs. Sexton retired after twenty-eight years with Gainesville Junior College (North Georgia College). She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church where she was the church clerk for thirty-five years. 

Survivors include her sons, Stephen Sexton (Leah) and Brian Sexton (Denise) both of Gainesville, GA. Grandchildren, Stewart Sexton (Samantha), Shannon Sexton (Heather), Faith Sexton, Bryson Sexton and Casey Barron (Denny). Four great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Sister, Laverne McClure of Lula, GA. 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday February 5, 2026 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Compton and Reverend Tim Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Belmont Baptist Church Cemetery. Honored as pallbearers are Stewart Sexton Shannon Sexton, Trent Sexton, Jeff Davidson, Stacy McClure and Jared McDougle. Bryson Sexton and Joseph Sexton will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 4, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home.
