Mrs. Jimmie Sue Thurmond

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Jimmie Sue Thurmond, age 78, Athens, Georgia, of the South Jackson Community, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Mrs. Thurmond was born in Franklin County, Georgia, a daughter to the late Ben and Vetter Patrick Hill. Mrs. Thurmond was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and watching her husband Roger play in his band. She had attended Crooked Creek Baptist Church and Attica Baptist Church over the years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thurmond was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jean Jennings, her sisters, Maylee Manus, Blondie Hill, Helen Norton Hill and her brothers, Fred Hill, Coleman Hill, Ralph Hill and Tommy Hill.

Survivors include her husband Roger Thurmond of Athens; son, Joel (Tammy) Norton of Colbert; grandchildren, Kelley (Joey) McDaniel of Commerce, Blake (Leighanne) Jennings of Jefferson, Brittany (Seth) Potts of Jefferson; step-grandchildren, Bradley Thurmond and Donovan Thurmond; sisters, Ruby (Harold) Smith, Geraldine Hill, brothers, Weyman (Frances) Hill and Ricky (Violet) Hill all of Banks County, two step sons, Tim and Tom Thurmond, and great grandchildren, Landon McDaniel, Katie Mae Jennings, Locke Potts and Turner Potts also survive.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Smith officiating. The burial will follow in the Evans Memory Gardens with Tim Thurmond, Tom Thurmond, Pete Kidd, Jeff Hand, Joey McDaniel, Brad Thurmond and Landon McDaniel honored as pallbearers.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
