Mairead Josephine Herron Shearer died peacefully at the age of 86 on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She is the beloved wife of the late Arthur James Shearer. Mrs. Shearer was born in Derry, Ireland, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Donaghey Herron, sister to Eileen, Sean , Garard, Jim, and the late Bebe, Anna and Hugh and countless nieces and nephews. Mairead was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Macon, Georgia and was retired from St. Peter Claver School.
She is survived by her son, Shaun James Shearer (Julie) of Greenville, South Carolina and daughter, Ruth Lancaster (Christopher) of Hoschton, Georgia. She was known as Granny to six grandchildren that always made her smile: Eleanor Grace Lancaster, Micah Colby Shearer, Gavin James Shearer, Maximilian Gray Lancaster, Malcom Souther Lancaster, Josephine Finley Lancaster.
In accordance with the wishes of Mrs. Shearer, the family will hold a small, private service at a later date. Her remains will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery where she will join her husband.
