Mrs. Martha Sue (Smith) Wier

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Martha Sue Smith Wier, age 88 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Saturday, June 29, 2024.  Mrs. Wier was born in South Jackson County, a daughter of the late Robert Chesley Smith and the late Evie Madge Townsend Smith.  Mrs. Wier was retired from the Jackson County  Department of Family and Childrens Service after twenty five years of service and was a longtime member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wier is also preceded by brothers, R.C. Smith, Roy Smith and Ben W. Smith and sisters, Ruby Zell Martin and Evie Madge Thomas.  

Survivors include her husband of sixty-seven years Gilbert Lord Wier of Jefferson.  Three sons, Danny Wier of Oakwood, David Wier of Jefferson and Dwight Wier (Ruby) of Jefferson.  Sister, Sybil Satterfield (Robert) of Athens.  Three grandchildren, Chesley Wier, Jesse Wier, and Martha Rogerson (Alec).  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Larisa Parker officiating with burial to follow in the Bethany Methodist Church Cemetery.  Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are William Howington, Doug Thurmond, Phil Thurmond, Gene Harper, Steve Satterfield and Leonard Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Alec Rogerson, Chesley Wier, Jesse Wier and Willard Smith.  The family will receive friends 12:00 – 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, prior to the service at Evans Funeral Home.
