Mrs. Mary (Gilbert) Bates

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Mary Gilbert Bates, age 90 of Pendergrass, Georgia who entered rest Sunday, November 5, 2023.  Mrs. Bates was born in Pendergrass, Georgia a daughter of the late Robert Henry Gilbert and the late Annie Louise Talbert Gilbert.  After graduation from Jefferson High School, Mrs. Bates attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, was a member of the James Pittman Chapter of DAR and the Jefferson First United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Bates was retired from the Jackson County Clerk of Courts Office.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bates is preceded by her husband, C. Robert “Bob” Bates, and a sister Ramona Carolyn Worley.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa “Missy” Peek (David) of Hoschton, granddaughter, Celeste Peek Bates of Pendergrass and a great granddaughter, Katie Beth Bates.  Sister, Alice Gilbert of Daytona Beach, brothers, Charles Gilbert (Herlene) of Marietta, and Bob Gilbert of Daytona Beach.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Hearn and Tricia Gilbert officiating.  The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 21, 2023 prior to the service at Evans Funeral Home.
