Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Sandra M. Highfill, age 73, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Saturday August 17, 2024. Mrs. Highfill was born in Commerce, GA, the daughter of the late James Stephenson and the late Jurell Peek Stephenson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Aubrey Highfill and a brother, Paul Stephenson.
Mrs. Highfill was a retired teacher from the Jackson County School System where she taught Special Education at East Jackson Middle School. During her years teaching she was a dedicated advocate for students with special needs and made a positive impact on many lives. She was a nurturing grandmother and loved her rescue dogs.
Survivors include her daughter, Amy Jo Purdy (Douglas) of Jefferson, GA. Four grandchildren, Kayley Edwards of Commerce, GA, Emily Edwards of Jefferson, GA, Jacen Purdy and Jaina Purdy both of Jefferson, GA.
The family will receive friends Wednesday August 21, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home. In accordance with Mrs. Highfill’s wishes, she will be cremated.
