Vandolah (Van) Head Waters of Jefferson, GA, 87, passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning
of January 11, 2026. Van leaves behind a family who adored her, a family who could fill volumes
with stories of her kindness, her selflessness, and her infectious joy for life.
No one more appreciated the chorus of birds on a spring morning, or the warm embrace of the
sun while rocking on the porch. There was no greater admirer of a fine day nor one more sure
that even during the bleakest storm that a rainbow was just over the horizon. She was a cold
Mexican Coca-Cola on a hot day, a warm fire on a winter night, a long conversation with a dear
friend. She always insisted laughter was the best medicine and hers was surely quite contagious.
It is common practice to ascribe sainthood to those we have lost. We can earnestly say we have
never met anyone in life more worthy of such attributions. No one left her house with an empty
stomach nor dirty fingernails. She savored rare Georgia snows, collected countless beach shells,
and delighted in rainstorms. She was quick to offer a hand, eager to donate her time, and always
willing to lend an ear. She never wanted to miss out on a good conversation. Ultimately, her
legacy endures through all of those who were blessed enough to know her, to love her, and to be
loved by her. We will think of her when the birds chatter, when the sun hits the porch just right,
when we curl up with a cat by the fireplace, and when we step our bare feet to the grass. Though
we mourn the loss of her corporeal being, we rest easy in the assurance that her soul is with
Jesus, free from the chains of age.
Van is survived by her husband, Douglas Clark Waters, Sr.; her two daughters, Kim Waters and
Jan Goggans (Gary); seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death
by her parents, Herbert and Hortense Head, and her son, Douglas Clark Waters, Jr.. The family
will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a page out of Nana’s book; go for a walk, climb a tree,
have a hearty laugh, eat your dessert before dinner, and go through life exuding love. One day
you may have a whole room of people in tears trying to find the words to convey the breadth of
joy you left in this world.
