Mrs. Virginia "Ginger" Blessing (Jones) Akin

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson, Georgia announces the passing of Mrs. Virginia “Ginger” Jones Blessing Akin, age 78 of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025.  

Born in 1947 in El Centro, California, Ginger was the daughter of the late Bill Jones and the late Dollie Virginia Tuttle Jones, and the adopted daughter of the late Henry Hudson Jones and the late Valdine Harless Jones. She was raised in Houston, Texas, where she built a long and respected career in accounting and office management for several Houston-are companies. 

In 2003, Ginger made Jefferson, Georgia her home. She retired in 2011 from Southeastern Landscape Company and was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church. Known for her sharp mind, love of family, and enduring faith, she touched the lives of those around her with both her strength and her generosity. 

Ginger was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Emmett Blessing (2016); her second husband Robert Lee Akin Sr (2021); her grandson, Yosef Isaac Blessing (2012); her brother, Lee Wilson; and her sisters, Marie Calvin, Jean Lewis and Jewell Mae Bruner. 

Survivors include her sons, Carl Wayne Blessing of Athens, GA; Jeffrey Dean Blessing and his wife Tamara of Magnolia, TX; step-children, Melissa Exum of Woodruff, SC and Robert Akin II and his wife Sandy of Nicholson, GA; brothers, Ronald Dean Jones and his wife Susan of Orange, TX; Tom Reinke and his wife Carol of Texas; sisters, Wilma Taylor of Knoxville, AR, and Amelia “Millie” Beatty of Waco, TX; and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Burrell officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park in Commerce, Geogia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to either The Gideons International at https://gideons.org/ or Faith Baptist Church, continuing her love for sharing God’s word.
